I never thought I would download the Bible App to my phone. I like to turn real pages and actually search my Bible to find the passage. Hey, I didn't do all those sword drills in Sunday school for nothing. Well, guess what app is on my phone? Yep, I caved at the beginning of the year and now have the Bible App on my phone.
Why? What caused me to change my mind and go digital? It's the Bible in a year plan. Maybe it's the thrill of marking off the little boxes (circles) after I conquer reading a chapter in Leviticus. Maybe it is trying to avoid the shame of opening up the app one morning only to have it tell me how I missed a day yesterday. Or maybe it's because this plan allows me to read from the Old Testament and New Testament on the same day. Whatever the reason, I have joined the ranks of the millions of people across the world who have the Bible on their phone (exact numbers have not been checked for accuracy).
If you too are reading using this plan, maybe you re(discovered) what I did yesterday. Along with a couple passages from Numbers and Luke, part of the daily reading was from Psalm 34:4, which states, "I sought the LORD and He answered me; he delivered me from all my fears." What a great reminder for today, when schools are closing, nursing homes are locking their doors, and stores are out of basic hygiene supplies. Many people seem to have gone into fear and panic mode.
I love what David, the psalmist, did instead. He sought the Lord, then God answered him and set him free from his fears. When we spend time communicating with God (which is what prayer is), we are focusing on Him instead of our worries and fears. Prayer is more than just positive thinking, though. Prayer is talking with the One in charge. This is exactly what President Trump has called for us to do today as a nation, seek the Lord. I don't care what political party you are with or if you don't agree with any of them. I don't care if you haven't prayed in forever. God wants us as a nation and individually to turn to Him and begin to seek Him again. So let's all join with President Trump today and everyday in calling out to God and spending time with Him. Let's not just make this a one day event but a new way of life.
